Alan was a truly great guy, always had a story or a joke. Naturally there a great many stories but one i remember well is: We went out for a team evening (probably about 20 of us) down a lovely little Italian restaurant in London. Alan was late, nothing new there, and as we had all pre ordered the food came pretty quickly to the table. A few bottle of wines were consumed (nothing new there either) and the atmosphere started to build up as everyone was having a good time. So someone started off telling a joke, and gradually we went round the tables, some people did magic tricks or told stories about funny things that had happened to them and then it came to Alan’s turn. So what did Alan do he stood up, cleared his throat for what we all thought was going to be one of his legendary stories or un PC jokes but NO he sang Elvis Presley’s – Hound Dog. Well not only had he surprised us all because none of knew he could even sing but he got the whole restaurant up and dancing much to the pleasure of the owner who demanded a second rendition and as bashful as Alan was he obliged but threw in some moves to make the evening more amusing. So to my mind this evening summed up a lot of Alan’s qualities; fun, full of surprises, an entertainer and a great team player.
